Virgil was 73 years old when he passed away on December 13, 2025 at the VA Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls.
Virgil was born on July 30, 1952 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, the son of Fred and Coarl (Kling) Kouril. He was the middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. He attended Emerson Elementary School (now a city park(, Axtell Park Junior High and Washington High School, where he graduated in 1970.
After high school, Virgil lived in Lemmon, SD and ranched with relatives and worked at the Lemmon Lumber Yard.
Virgil enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1974. He worked in legal services as a court reporter. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, Camp Lejeune, NC and in Okinawa, Japan for one year. Virgil attended the National Joint Military Exercises in 1978. He was discharged in 1979.
He returned to Sioux Falls and was employed at Kentwood Manor in the maintenance department, Starmark Cabinetry and in the block division at Sweetman Construction.Virgil lived in the “Kouril” house which was built for his parents in 1947. He purchased the house from his mother’s estate after she passed away in 1988.
Virgil’s walking days are over now, as are his days of ice fishing and go-cart rides with Kryssa.
He was a life-time member of the Memorial Lutheran Church. He was baptized, attended Sunday School and was confirmed at the original church, located at 11th street and Willow Ave.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his siblings, Richard (Joyce) Kouril of Oswego, MN and Audrey (Jeff) Kouril Rud; nephews, Dallas Kouril of Big Lake, MN, Wade (Gina) Kouril of Higginsville, MO, Eric (Sadie) Kouril of Sioux Falls, Adam (Cheryl) Kouril of Sioux Falls, Aron (Stacy) Kouril of Brandon; a niece, Kryssa Kouril of Monticello, MN; and Jeff’s sons, Sean Rud and Aaron Rud, both of Sioux Falls.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Coral.
You-the young children, Virgil enjoyed attended your sport activities, birthday celebrations, great visits, artwork and making him part of your lives; Kayden and Kylee, Big Lake, MN, Dawson and Claudia Jackson, Higginsville, MO, Ella, Saxon, Ezra, Sicelia, Wyatt, Aidan and Audreana of Sioux Falls, Kennedy, Carter and Kobey of Brandon, Jacob, Blakely, Lena and Faye of Harrisburg, and Reese of Sioux Falls. He is saddeded that he will miss you growing up into your adult lives.
