Vanette Ann Wagner, age 68, was born July 20, 1957, to Chuck and Della Wagner in Graceville, MN. In 1959-60 the family relocated to Fairfax, MN where Vanette attended school and graduated in 1975. In 1976, Vanette competed in the Miss Fairfax competition and was 1st runner up, which led to her lifelong appreciation for presenting her best self. She attended college at St. Cloud State from 1976 to 1979 and then she set off to chase her dreams. Being bold, independent, smart, with some pretty good looks, she traveled and resided in Baytown Texas. Once there she competed in some beauty pageants and was actually 3rd runner up in the Jr. Miss Texas pageant in 1979.
She loved Texas and took up an occupation in the chemical and construction field working for Daniel Construction, Chevron and Brown & Root. She had a small acreage where she lived with some of her favorite critters, JC (horse), Whitney (pig), and Stacy (dog). When she wasn't home or at work she could be found in her boat. She loved taking her boat out and enjoying the beautiful water and beaches. Although she resided in Texas, she never gave up being a devoted Vikings fan, rarely missing a game. She loved her family and would always make sure to make it home for Christmas. She would also come back in the summer any chance she could to ride out in the hills with her family and friends. In 2019 after her animals had passed and she encountered a few bumps in the road with health, she decided to move back to Canton, South Dakota. Once back she chose to spend a lot of her time with her beloved "Papa Dad" and other close family and friends. She fought a tough battle with cancer, but she always faced it with courage and resilience. She is now pain-free in heaven riding her beautiful JC out in the hills she loved so much.
She is survived by her father Chuck Wagner(Papa Dad) and step mother Patty, mother Della Elg, siblings Forestt (Laurie) Wagner, Rhonda (Mike) Miller, Mary Jo (Mike) Riter, Jonathan (Jackie) Petermann, and Amanda (Len) Larson, step sisters Shawn and Shannon, many nieces and nephews, her kind friend and neighbor Randy, and her Texas crew Kay, Brittany, and Larry who she remained in contact with until the very end.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents and her step father, Kenneth Elg.
There will be no funeral service per her request.
