Sandy Ostendorf

Sandra Lee Ostendorf, most recently of Custer, South Dakota, peacefully passed away on August 4, 2026, at Custer Care and Rehab Center. She was born on December 27, 1941, to Clarence and Jean LaVaughn (Wacker) Peterson in North Platte, Nebraska.

Sandy worked various jobs throughout her life, from retail to bookkeeping and, at the time of her retirement, housekeeping. Sandy will be remembered for her fierce love of her family and for playing Fast Track with her friends at Arbor Ridge Apartments and bingo at Custer Care.

Sandy was proud to be the mother of Lawrence "Lee" Ostendorf Jr., of Gladstone, Missouri; Sheila (Rodney) Wolfe, of Box Elder, South Dakota; and Cindy (Todd) Mescher, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was the grandmother of Tony Ostendorf, Shannon (Dustin) Roberts, Jarrett Mescher, and Easton Mescher, and the great-grandmother of Maci and Grace Roberts.

Sandy is survived by her sisters, Janet Interholzinger and Kathy Bricher; her sister-in-law, Linda Peterson; and her beloved nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Jean LaVaughn Peterson; her brother, Larry Peterson; and her brothers-in-law, Jared Interholzinger and Mark Bricher and niece Julie Peterson.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that family and friends perform a random act of kindness in Sandy's memory.
