Sammy Jorgensen, a true original and a master of all things mechanical, left us on May 15, 2025, holding up a peace sign, and surrounded by those he loved. Born on December 28, 1949, in Sioux Falls, SD, to George and Grace Jorgensen, Sam's infectious energy, vibrant personality and incredible talents will be profoundly missed.
While Sam skillfully operated heavy equipment in his career, his heart truly belonged in his garage and at the race track. He was celebrated for his extraordinary gift of restoring classic and muscle cars - bringing them back to life with meticulous care and transforming them into automotive works of art. The thrill of short track racing was a lifelong joy, and when he could no longer race, he continued to be a familiar presence as the head flagger at the Sioux Valley Cycle Club.
Sam was more than just a skilled mechanic; he was a force of nature—full of life with an outgoing and carefree character and he was always the first to offer help. If it was broken, Sam could fix it, make it faster and add some flames.
Sam's memory will be cherished by his daughter, Sarah (Kasey) Hahn; his grandchildren, Dylan Smidt and Hannah Hahn, who brought him immense pride; his siblings, Georgia (Larry) Hayes and Steve Jorgensen; and his many nieces and nephews. He now joins in eternal peace his beloved daughter Shannon Jorgensen, his parents George and Grace Jorgensen, his brother Dan Jorgensen, and his sister-in-law Lori Jorgensen.
All friends and family are invited to come and celebrate Sam's remarkable life from 2-4pm, on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Sioux Valley Cycle Club in Renner, SD. No formal ceremony is planned but rather on open time to come and visit with the family. A private burial ceremony will be held at Hills of Rest.
