Robert Guse

September 3, 1934 — October 29, 2023

Robert (Bob) Guse passed away on October 29, 2023 at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls.

Bob was born on Sept. 3, 1934 in DeSmet, South Dakota, the son of Fred and Helen Guse. He graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1953. After high school, he worked with his father on the farm until he entered the Army in October of 1954. He was discharged from active duty in July of 1956 and was in the Army Reserve until 1962.

Shortly after his active duty discharge, Bob moved to Sioux Falls where he met Virginia McKenzie. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1957 and they lived in Sioux Falls and raised three sons. Bob worked at Morrell’s for 25 years, then had various jobs including being a security guard and a valet. He was also a talented handyman and enjoyed his projects around the home.

Bob enjoyed going camping and taking trips. He taught himself to play the harmonica, and his great  grandson David enjoyed dancing when Bob played. Everyone that met Bob knew him as a kind and gracious person, always saying “thank you” and “I love you” to his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Virginia; three sons, Jeff Guse, Arthur (Cheri) Guse and Dale (Carmelita) Guse; five grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Holida.
