Obituary

Myrna Searl, 99, of Sioux Falls (formerly of Humboldt, SD), passed away on July 25, 2026, at Good Samaritan Village.

Visitation with family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on August 1 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow.

Myrna was born to Ontje and Hilda (Otten) Groeneveld on April 30, 1927. She attended country school, graduated from Humboldt High School, and later attended Sioux Falls College. Myrna married Robert "Bob" Searl on September 5, 1946. They farmed together until 1964, when they moved to Humboldt after purchasing the former drugstore, renaming it Humboldt Sundries. In 1984, Bob purchased the Humboldt Cafe, which Myrna ran while Bob served as the South Dakota Legion Commander. She also drove a school bus for the West Central School system for over 25 years. Bob passed away in 1996, and she continued to live on their acreage until 2016, when she moved to Sioux Falls.

Myrna loved to sew, bake, embroider, quilt, read, crochet, and solve crossword puzzles in ink. Myrna hosted many Christmases for her family, which have become cherished memories.

She is survived by her children: Robert O., Robyn (Bob) Hanisch, Jacalyn (Tim) Hovden, and Tracey Butler.Grandchildren: Andrea (Matt) DeClark, Adam (Ann) Hanisch, Alexander (Jennifer) Butler, and Katie (Taylor) Slingsby. Step-grandchildren: Jana (Tom) Jones and Angela (Adam) Moschell. Great-grandchildren: 9 Step-great-grandchildren: 4 Step-great-great-grandchildren: Sister-in-law: Mavis Groeneveld and Brother-in-law: Charles Searl; As well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings: Daphene (Ray) Steichen, Marvin (Veronica) Groeneveld, Arthur Groeneveld, Joanna (Jim) Elder, and Wilbur (Darlene) Groeneveld; her nephews: David, Mark, and Thad Groeneveld; and her niece: Connie Lehnertz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Humboldt, SD, or a charity of your choice
