Mark Miller Jensen, of Canistota, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Sanford Hospital at the age of 63.

Mark was born on March 10, 1963, to Harvey and Claudette (Janssen) Jensen. He joined his sisters, Ann and Nancy, and brother, Chuck. He attended school in Gayville and continued his education at Southeast Area Vo-Tech in Sioux Falls.

Mark married Erna Stigman on June 4, 1981, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Wendy and Elizabeth. Throughout his life, Mark used his many skills and talents in a variety of jobs, but one thing was certain: he could fix anything.

There wasn’t much Mark couldn’t—or wouldn’t—try to fix. Whether he was tinkering on something in his shed, repairing a vehicle, or taking a simple piece of wood and turning it into something beautiful, Mark enjoyed keeping busy and creating things with his hands. He was always willing to lend a hand and could be counted on whenever something needed to be done.

Mark was not only a hardworking man, but also someone who possessed the gifts of understanding and listening. He was calm, level-headed, and seemed to always know just what to say. His kindness touched many people throughout his life and his community, and his quiet, steady presence meant more to those around him than he probably ever realized.

Mark enjoyed life, and fishing was one of his favorite pastimes. He may not have always come home with a fish, but he always came home with memories. Some of his favorite moments were spent fishing and enjoying time with his friends, family, and grandchildren.

Above all his interests, Mark’s greatest pride was his family. He was a constant and grounding presence, offering guidance, a quiet smile, and unconditional love. You could often find Mark cheering on his grandchildren at their many activities. He loved being there to watch them and support them whenever he could.

The memories created through family trips, boat outings, fishing days, football games, and the countless ordinary moments of everyday life will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.

Mark is survived by Erna; daughters, Wendy (Joe) Kleinsasser of Canistota and Elizabeth (Grady) Hart of Orange Beach, Alabama; grandchildren, Noah, Jaden, Adam, Caleb, Matthew, and Faith; mother, Claudette Jensen of Gayville; sisters, Ann Jensen of Vermillion and Nancy Jensen of Bismarck; brother, Charles (Tammy) Jensen of Omaha; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Harvey, and granddaughter, Layna.

A Celebration of Life and burial will be planned for a later date.
