Marjorie was born to Engel A. and Cora (de Velder) Van Zee on August 2, 1927 on a farm in Douglas County, South Dakota. She lived on the family farm for 17 years after which the family moved to Corsica, South Dakota.
Marjorie attended a country school for 8 years and graduated from Corsica High School in 1945. She attended Teacher's College in Springfield, South Dakota and later taught in various rural schools for 5 years. She was later employed as a teacher's aide for 10 years in the Corsica Community School. Marjorie was a 4H leader in the community for 6 years. She was an active member of the Grace Reformed Church in Corsica and served as an active member of the congregation.
In 1949 she married Garrian Van Roekel. Together they made their home in Corsica, SD for 29 years. To this union 3 daughters were born: Janice (Jim) Reinert, Patricia (Paul) Bushard and Mary (Jim) McGinley. In 1980 she and Garrian moved to Sioux Falls, SD. During this time she worked in a hobby shop and a HyVee Grocery Store. In 2002 she moved to Prairie Village, KS to be closer to her daughter Mary. She lived a full and happy life there. In 2020 she moved with daughter Mary and her husband Jim to St. Augustine, FL. Marge was an avid reader and loved historical novels as well as a good murder mystery.
Marge is survived by her 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren: Aaron Kiefer, Tony (Dipali) Kiefer, Meghan (Trevor) Macaluso, and Mason (Marylena) McGinley. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren: Arianna Kiefer, Josephine and Anderson Kiefer, Nolan Macaluso, anbd Joshua and Ellanora McGinley. She was preceded in death by her husband Garrian and son-in-law Jim McGinley.
