Sioux Falls

Celebration of life will be held at 5:30 pm on June 23, 2023 at the City Park in Lakefield, MN.

Kay Karen (Swanson) Bettin passed away surrounded by family on May 27th, 2023 at Dougherty Hospice house.

Kay was born on September 23, 1947 in Jackson, Minnesota to Byron and Marzella (Stowe) Swanson. She attended school in lakefield Minnesota. After highschool she attended beauty school.

On May 4th, 1968 she married the love of her life, Dennis, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, Minnesota. Together they brought two beautiful daughters into this world. Kay was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and enjoyed every moment with them! She especially loved the role of Nanny. Kay loved unconditionally which made her a great troop leader and a great role model.

Kay was amazing in the kitchen… From baking, to cooking, to giving the kids baths in the kitchen sink. Kay was great at most things; knitting, crocheting, patching up holes in the kids' clothes. But there were a few things Kay just didn't like; MobyMax, Losing in a game of Fill Or Bust, but most of all when people didn't get along. Kay was sassy but what came with that was classy. She rocked a good pair of high heels and a long set of red nails till the day she couldn't. When going to Kay’s you could always count on three things, a great meal, a good conversation, and a reason to come back. If there’s one thing you can take from Kay's life is all people die, but not all people live!

Grateful for sharing her life with her two daughters Heidi (Bettin) Swartz and Nicole (Bettin) Christensen. She is also survived by her 8 wonderful grandchildren; Stephanie (Bettin) Larson (Ben), Brendon Swartz (Courtney), Brady Swartz (Caitlin), Nicholas Bettin, Lincoln Swartz, Seth Bettin, Natalie and Olivia Christensen. Her 7 great grandchildren. Her siblings, Peggy (Swanson) Majerus (Larry), Mark Swanson, John Swanson, Sue (Swanson) Sinnamon, Bruce Swanson (Lois), Dean Swanson and Sara Swanson. Kay was also survived by lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents Byron and Marzella (Stowe) Swanson, Brother Kent Swanson, Sister Sandra Swanson, and her Husband Dennis Bettin.
