Katherine
Jacobsma
January 18, 1986 – May 2, 2026
Katherine Rae Jacobsma passed away on May 2, 2026 at the young age of 40. She was born January 18, 1986 in Canton, South Dakota to Brian and Wanita Jacobsma, and was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Kathy grew up in Inwood, Iowa and graduated from Western Christian High School in 2004. Gifted with an artistic ability from a young age, she went on to pursue dreams of fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California, and jewelry design in Manhattan, New York, landing her a job at Swarovski in New York City.
It was in New York in 2013 that she met her husband, Yuki Takanashi. They shared an appreciation of art, enjoyed dining out at unique restaurants, hiking upstate, and attending music festivals. They were married on May 25, 2016 in Hawaii, and in 2020, moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Kathy had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, exploring places like Oxford, London, and Japan. She spent time studying the Japanese language, working on various craft projects, and putting together complex puzzles. She had a green thumb, caring for many exotic houseplants over the years and gifting them to family when she needed to make room for more.
Spending time with family was important to Kathy, and included outings with her sisters, visits with her grandmother, dinner with her parents, and playing silly games with her nieces. She also loved dogs, actively supporting the Dakota Dachshund Rescue and adopting two dachshunds of her own: Gaby and Jet.
Kathy worked for many years at Frankman Motor Company and Dakota Post in Sioux Falls.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Yuki Takanashi; her parents, Brian and Wanita Jacobsma; her sisters, Caroline (John) Jacobsma and Elizabeth (Josh) Lipetri; her nieces, Sierra Feucht and Sadie Rexwinkel; and her grandmother, Wanda Seaver.
