Joyce Kemp

Joyce passed away peacefully in Sioux Falls on February 10, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1936 in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Arthur and Ruby Barthel.

Joyce was a woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved thrift shopping for hidden treasures, dancing whenever she had the chance, playing cards, putting puzzles together, traveling and spending time with her beloved dogs.

Above all, Joyce cherished her family. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and the many generations that followed. She especially adored her grandchildren and took great pride in each of them.

Joyce was first married to Hubert Wartner and from that marriage came four children, Barry, Brenda, Jerry and Julie. Later, she married Kenneth Kemp, Sr. Together, they welcomed two children, Ken, Jr. and Sommer Kemp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ruby; all of her siblings; and two beloved grandchildren, Stacey Dean and Eric Dean.

Joyce leaves behind her loving children, Barry Wartner, Brenda (Art) Logan, Jerry (Billie) Wartner, Julie (David) Leyba, Kenneth (Christa) Kemp and Sommer (Katie) Kemp; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who will continue her legacy of love, laughter and family devotion.

Joyce will be remembered for her warm heart, lively spirit and the deep love she had for family. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
