Obituary

Greg Kent Klepel was born on Sept. 6, 1955 to Verna Joy Geiken (Klepel) and Fred Herbert McKenzie JR in Sioux Falls, SD. In school, he was known for his physical strength and participated in football, wrestling and Track. Greg married Theresa on Sept. 9, 2000.

Greg joined the United States Army in 1974 and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VirginiaThere, he earned his GED and a Mobile Electric Power Generation Diploma. Following his discharge, Greg then worked for the railroad for 5 years. Most of his life he worked as a mechanic at a small garage in Sioux Falls. He then worked for Hertz-Penske until he retired, after which, he started working at Servall Supply Company until his final retirement. Additionally, for over 20 years, he worked weekends at the Hy-Vee Gas Station.

Greg loved his family most. He spent his free time with his wife, Terri, children and grandchildren. Greg and Terri enjoyed watching football games. He loved watching Westerns and reading poetry. His favorite poet was Leonard Nimoy. Greg also had a passion for music and he would often sing or turn conversations into a song. He loved many musicians and bands and had an extensive collection of albums

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather Carl Klepel, wife, Theresa Marie Klepel, and son, Travis, who passed shortly after birth.

Greg is survived by four children, Susan (Shane) Vernooy, Anna Stoltenberg, Justin (Leanne) Klepel and Heather Klepel; two stepchildren,,Julie (Joseph) Freeman and Nichole Raymanda; 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; three sisters, Cathy Richardson, Cynthia Cunningham and Karla Eastman; and a brother, Steve Klepel.
