With profound sadness we announce the passing of DeOrval (Dick) Benjamin Purintun on August 25, 2026 at the Hospice Cottage at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls
Dick was born on April 29, 1942 in Twin Brooks Dakota to DeOrval and Nettie (Gillespie) Purintun. He graduated from Watertown High school in 1960. He served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam war from 1961-1964 as a radioman, and spent his working career at Atwoods in Rockford, Illinois
In 1965, he met the love of his life, Betty Olson and they were married on June 6, 1965 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD, making their home in Rockford, IL until they moved back to South Dakota in 1999. Betty and Dick shared 61 wonderful years together as a married couple showing strength, understanding and love in fulfilling the vows they pledged before God on their wedding day and setting a strong example of family for their sons to follow.
Dick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness to all and what it takes as a human being to be a true life partner, devoted parent, adoring grandfather and a friend to all through good times and tragedy. One never left his home without him reminding one to "Come again".
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; son, Richard (Tonia); grandchildren, Ashley (Brennan Winterbauer), Emily, Joshua, Christopher, Anthony, Kellie and Matthew Purintun, thirteen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his long-time hunting and trap shooting buddy, Marvin Lane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chad; three brothers, Darrell, Dean and Douglas; three sisters, Valesta, Delores and Stella.
No formal services are planned at this time. The family asks that you keep Dick in your thoughts and privately celebrate his memory.
