Darlene was born on August 31, 1931 in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Spencer and Mary (Zentel) Jewell. She grew up in Sioux Falls.
As a young lady, she began working at McKennan Hospital in the laundry facility along with her mother and sister. Darlene married Edward Eide on November 14, 1949 in the parsonage at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived in Sioux Falls where they raised their children. Darlene and Ed loved to go dancing at the Arkota Ballroom and Moose Lodge.
Darlene always looked forward to going to work was employed at McKennan Hospital for 42 years. She retired so she could take care of her family.
She was member of Hope Lutheran Church where she helped with church activities and in her circle group. Darlene enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren’s activities. She was always busy at home taking care of her yard and flowers.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Linda Mace, Jean Eide, Mary Eide and Donna (Craig) Winberg; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Delores Burgers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward in 2012; and 5 siblings, George, Marvin, Donald, Dale and Irene.
