Connie Metz

Sioux Falls

Connie Metz, a shining light who touched the hearts of everyone she met, was born in the small town of Anthon, IA, where she graduated from High school. She was the daughter of Carl L Sands and Doris Viola (Stivers) Sands of Anthon Iowa. Connie carried storms and strength with her through every chapter of her life. She was a beacon of resilience and kindness, moving to Sioux City, Iowa, where she poured her heart into working at Alf's Manufacturing, sewing dreams into every pair of jeans she crafted.

Her journey was marked by deep love and heartache—marrying Frederick Metz,(later divorced) with whom she hoped for a lifetime of happiness, only to face the pain of losing their precious son, Heath Michael Metz, stillborn. Yet, Connie's spirit never faded. She welcomed another child, Michelle Metz, and in 1979, the family relocated to LeMars, Iowa, and continued her work at Alf’s before they closed, Tyson Foods until they shuttered, then Wells Dairy for over five years. Connie’s work was a reflection of her unwavering dedication. She also infused beauty into the lives around her as a home interior sales decorator in the esrly years, turning houses into warm, inviting havens filled with love.

After life's hardships and pivotal moments, Connie found her way to Worthing, South Dakota, to be close to her daughter Michelle and son-in-law Jason Schroeder. For 16 years, she made Worthing her landing pad, embracing the adjustments to a new life. In Sioux Falls and Canton, SD, she became more than just a coworker—she became a mentor and grandma figure to many, sharing her warmth, wisdom, and endless compassion. The arrival of her grandchildren, Rebeka in 2008 and Heath in 2010, brought her immeasurable joy. Known lovingly as Granny Nanny, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, pouring her love into every moment spent with her grandchildren. Her courage shone brightly, especially as she underwent triple open-heart surgery over a decade ago, triumphing over adversity with grace.

Connie’s heart overflowed with love—for her family, her friends, and her precious animals. She found joy in the simplest pleasures: listening to bands at the casino, sharing laughter with friends, and reveling in her role as grandma. Her kindness, friendliness, and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a force of love, lighting up our lives and our hearts forever.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, her son Heath, her ex-husband Frederick, and her sister Sharon Richards—her family members whose memories she held close.

She leaves behind her cherished daughter, Michelle (Jason) Schroeder, and her precious grandchildren, Reba and Heath. Her brother Ricky Sands of College Station, TX, her niece Tonja Richards of Des Moines, IA, her nephew Troy Richards from Urbandale, IA, and Troy's two beautiful adult daughters, Olivia and Isabella Richards. Family and friends keep her spirit alive in their hearts. Her friends and extended family stand united in love and remembrance.

Connie, your wings were ready, but our hearts were not. You are forever in God's loving embrace. We hold you in our hearts, and we love you more than words can express."
