Cheryl Hofer

Cheryl Marie Hofer, 66, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Sanford Hospital surrounded by her children.

Cheryl was born on February 13, 1957 in Aberdeen, SD to Martin and Marian Jeschke. Her siblings are Charlene Wiley, Dennis (Peg) Jeschke and Marlis (Randall) Stoltenberg.

She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1975 and graduated from the Aberdeen School of Commerce in 1976. Cheryl attended the University of South Dakota where she obtained her social work degree in 1987, graduating Magna Cum Laude and then attended the University of Nebraska, Omaha where she obtained her master of social work degree in 1992.

Cheryl was a social worker at the Human Services Center in Yankton for 18 years where she worked with adults in an acute mental health inpatient setting. From 1998-2003 Cheryl also served part-time as an advocate for women and children in domestic violence and taught parenting classes through the Women’s Shelter in Yankton. Later, she worked at Lewis and Clark Behavioral Health as a youth and family therapist for home-based services for 10years before moving to Sioux Falls in 2015. In her last several years, Cheryl has served as an employment training coordinator for the National Indian Council on Aging. 

Cheryl enjoyed gardening, shopping, spending time with her family and friends and cuddling with her puppies, Max and Taya. She loved following her nieces and nephews lives on social media. Above all else, Cheryl was a dedicated and loving mother to her two children, Justin (Kristina) Hofer of Sioux Falls, SD and Tara (Jay) Schroeder of St. Peter, MN. Anyone that has had a conversation with Cheryl has likely heard all about the current happening of her children and grandchildren and how proud of them she has been. 

Cheryl is survived by her siblings, children, grandchildren: Ashley (Dylan) Huggins, Allyssa (Mike) Hagen, Breanna Hagen, Jackson Hagen, Elliot Hagen and Stella Schroeder and great- grandchildren: Theo & Finley Huggins.

Place of interment will be determined at a later date.
