Caren MacArthur

September 23, 1942 — May 17, 2023

Sioux Falls

Caren Jean Alguire was born on Sept. 23, 1942, in Sioux Falls to Donald and June (Peters) Alguire.

Her childhood was spent creating happy memories and havoc with her cousins and best friends, Jeannie Sherwood and Mary. Caren was a graduate of Washington Senior high School class of 1960.

On October 22, 1960, Caren & Merlyn Dale MacArthur, a local cabinet maker, we're joined in holy matrimony. Their daughter Bobbette was born on March 10th, 1962 in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

Mom was always the ever adventurous and creative soul. She moved to California attending one of the best beauty Schools in the country, exploring the local sights like Fisherman’s Warf, her beloved Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, the Aquarium, Japanese tea gardens, and the ocean, only to move back home to Sioux Falls in 1969 becoming the head instructor at the South Dakota Hairstyling Academy in Sioux Falls. But her summer breaks were spent enjoying Neil Diamond, dancing, cat fishing, and waterskiing on the Missouri with her mother and daughter in Chamberlain.

In 1976, Caren married Bill Psychos at the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff NE and moved into a historic log cabin 30 miles north of Newcastle Wyoming where Avon, hunting & horseback riding would become some of her favorite pastimes.

Later in the 1980's & 90's Caren would move to Rapid City, eventually returning to Sioux Falls becoming an Activity Director for Good Samaritan, where she loved spending time with the residents, her aging grandparents, dinners with newfound friends and family as well as many new adventures including plays, Aerosmith, Rod Stuart, & Elton John concerts, camping and kayaking. She is also a cancer survivor; go Mom.

Her last visit to Colorado was in October of 2022 where she was reunited with family and grandchildren enjoying a sightseeing trip at Garden of the Gods. She will be missed but is in a much better place reunited in heaven with family she has missed so much. Caren was age 80, when she passed away Wednesday May 17, 2023 in Sioux Falls.

She is survived by her only daughter Bobbette, and son-in-law David Mahn of Brighton, Colorado. She welcomed her first grandchild Ashley in 1987 and a second, Michael in 1992.
