Sioux Falls

Betty Jean Garrison, age 73, passed away peacefully at home after an extended battle with brain cancer. Betty was born to Cliff & Ann Buchholz. She grew up in Avon, SD, along with her brother Lloyd. After high school, Betty attended college, where she studied Art. It was there, at Southern State College, that she met & married Rod Garrison. Together they raised three children in Sioux Falls, SD.

Betty led a colorful, gypsy life. She spent many years traveling & working at festivals with her 2nd husband & good friend, Jeff Sweetman. They ran a mini racetrack & bungee jumper.  Betty had a talent for sales & sold beautiful jewelry at these events. She could talk to anyone & made several friends along the way. After traveling, Betty settled in Florida, where she lived for nearly 20 years & worked in retail sales.  She loved the ocean & beach. You often saw her walking along Fernandina Beach, looking for shark teeth & shells. The sunshine filled her soul while the water moved her spirit.

Betty was a lover of the Arts; an artist who created oil paintings, greeting cards, gratitude rocks, papier-mâché bowls & more. She loved to read, write, watch documentaries, & listen to music. She could also make delicious soup & baked goods, which she graciously shared. Betty was a fun-loving free spirit, & her laughter was contagious. She lived life, embraced change, & encouraged everyone to "Ask, Believe, & Receive." The universe always provided for her wants & needs. Her positivity was a true gift, and she will be missed dearly by her friends & family.

Betty is survived by her children: Lori Garrison (Jacksonville FL), Jackie Wages (Don, Chester SD), and Jon Garrison (Jacksonville FL); 3 grandchildren: Christopher Rosselot (Stacey), Jadon Wages, & Brock Wages; 1 great grand-daughter, Reagan Rosselot, her older brother Lloyd Buchholz (Joella, Sioux Falls SD) and her cherished cat, Sophie, who provided her comfort & joy through 8 years of chemotherapy.
