Annette DeLay

Annette J. DeLay, 80, of Egan, SD passed away on November 19, 2025, under hospice care at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls after 2+ years battling T-Cell Lymphoma.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in January 2026. Will update in the near future.

Ann was born in Vancouver, WA to Harley and Edna (Arke) Leighton on January 21, 1945. She graduated from Madison High School and General Beadle State College. Ann married James E. DeLay in Madison at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on May 31, 1968. They celebrated 57 years of marriage this year.

She taught business classes at Egan High School and later worked in Madison at the South Dakota Department of Social Services as a Case Manager until retirement. In her spare time, Ann enjoyed gardening, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.

Ann is survived by her husband, James; four children: James Jr (Amber), Dave, John, and Erin; five grandchildren: Olivia, Jack, Skylar, Elsie, and Mikey; sisters-in-law Barb Leighton, Lorene Cavigielli, Carol Kuehn, Bonnie (Jerry) Hemmer, and Jane DeLay; and several relatives and friends.

Ann is preceded in death by her daughter Rochelle Marie; her parents Harley and Edna Leighton; her five siblings: Jerry, Russ, Duane, Nyla and Neva; in-laws Francis and Erma DeLay.
