Lorraine Smith

October 24, 1925 — February 23, 2010

Lorraine was born on October 24, 1925 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Jerome and Emma (Mundt) Smith. She was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1943. Lorraine worked for a dentist in Sioux Falls for a number of years and attended Sioux Falls College during the evenings. She wrote an column for The Stylus college newspaper called ?Kulture Korner? while at USD and was inducted into the Theta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1957. Lorraine earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1964. She was an Art teacher at Edison Junior High School for a number of years and then moved into an supervisory position for the Art program for the Sioux Falls School District. She retired from the school district after more than thirty-five years of teaching. Lorraine was 84 when she passed away on February 23, 2010 a the Dougherty Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Lorraine made and collected porcelain dolls and was a member of the Minnehaha Dollers Club. She also was fond of Disney characters and collected them as well. Lorraine especially enjoyed visiting with her former students. She was a member of the Sioux Falls Area Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her brother, Robert Smith of LaHabra, Ca., and his wife, Phyllis; a sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Grand Island, Ne.; two nieces, Robin Smith and Dr. Molly D?Costa and her husband, Mikei; and two great nephews, Miles and Morgan; and many friends.
