Derald Dale Deal , the son of Leonard and Hazel (Franzke) Deal was born June 11, 1921 in Washington, Iowa. He grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa. He attended High School in Brookings, South Dakota, graduating in 1940. He then attended South Dakota State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in Dairying. Derald served his country as an Army Sergeant during World War II, followed by 5 years in the United States Naval Reserve. He was employed by John Morrell & Company for 35 years. After retirement he worked with the youth in the community in the after school program and was recognized for 5 years of service. Derald was united in marriage with Marcelene Laur on July 29, 1942 at Sioux Falls, SD. They celebrated 68 years together. He was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church for 56 years and an active member of the VFW Post # 628. Those around him enjoyed his great personality and his keen sense of humor. He enjoyed dancing, music, social gatherings, playing his violin and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Derald was 89 when he passed away at his home in Sioux Falls on January 26, 2011. Derald is survived by his wife, Marcelene and his 4 children, Jackie (Ken) Cressman, Canton, SD, Tom Deal, Sioux Falls, Sharla Conklin, Sioux Falls, Karen Peters, Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Richard, Susan, Kim, James, Dale and Jeremy; 7 great grandchildren, Carly, Chelsey, Shane, Justin, Nicholas, Kaitlyn and Austin. He was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Solomon and his parents, Leonard and Hazel.
