Gladys Schade

Gladys Smith Schade was born December 11, 1922 at Gutherie County Iowa to Ross and Mary Smith. She married Paul Betts on May 18, 1940. They had four children, Patsy, Joanne, Janis and Jim. Gladys worked at the Denison Memorial Hospital for eight years. Gladys married Jerry Schade on September 24, 1975 and became a step-mother to Paul Schade, Jim Schade and Jane Williams. She worked in Labor and Delivery at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, birthdays, holidays, crocheting, playing the organ and being outdoors gardening and tending to her many flowers. Gladys attended Hilltop United Methodist Church for many years and recently transferred to First Presbyterian Church near her home. She was a student of the Bible and dedicated her life to being a humble servant of the Lord. Gladys went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2011 and will be buried next to Jerry at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is survived by three daughters, Patsy (Richard) Hansen, Cedar Falls, IA, Joanne (Wayne) Sabatka, Kansas City, MO and Janis (John) Griffin, Longmont, CO; one son, Jim (Joyce) Betts, Lenanon, IL; two step-sons, Paul (Renee Doescher) Schade, Badger, SD, Jim (Nancy) Schade, Volga, SD, one step-daughter, Jane (Kim) Williams, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two sisters, Esther Betts and Marlene Wall, and one brother, Sam Smith. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and two sister, Ruth Betts and Opal Penry.
