Lois Carlson

Lois was born on a farm north of Canton, South Dakota, on July 8, 1917, to Frank and Addie (Farley) Painter. The family later moved to Sioux Falls. Lois graduated from Washington High School in the class of 1935. After graduation, she worked for Production Credit Association until 1945 when she married Leo K. Carlson and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. They later moved back to Sioux Falls and she worked for Farmland Industries and retired in 1982. Lois married Leonard Rusche in 1993.She volunteered many years at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Lois was 93 years old when she passed away April 2, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is survived by her son, Steve (Sheryl) Carlson, Sioux Falls; two granddaughters, Kameron (Jerry) Gladis and Kathleen (Andrew) Karssen. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wayne Painter and two husbands, Leo Carlson in 1988 and Leonard Rusche in 2004.
