John was born July 23, 1930 at Miller, SD to John and Leata (Fisher) Hermann. He graduated from high school at Evart, Michigan in 1949. The summer of 1949 the family moved back to South Dakota. John married Gwen Osterberg March 11, 1951 at her home in Miller, SD. John was drafted and served in the Marine Corp. from December 1951 through December 1953. After his discharge he worked at various jobs until the spring of 1956 when he started working for the Jewel Tea Company and made it his career, retiring in 1989. After retirement he started doing wood working and enjoyed it very much. He made many beautiful things that he sold at regional craft shows. John was 80, when he died Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls surrounded by his loving wife and family. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Gwen of Sioux Falls, two sons, David (Pontip) and Steven (JoAnn), two daughters, Laurisa (Richard) Charles and Michelle (Reade) Nelson all of Sioux Falls; one sister, Evelyn Wollman of Fedora, SD; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nine great grand children and six step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
