Karl was born March 15, 1927 in Big Stone County, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Sophia (Vangsness) Klepel. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand and later moved to Sioux Falls where he drove truck for Mayflower Trucking hauling the mail. Karl and Verna Geiken were married on August 12, 1961 at Pipestone, Minnesota. They moved to Milbank, South Dakota in 1964 where Karl worked for a cheese factory. They moved back to Sioux Falls a few years later and Karl returned to truck driving. He worked as a custodian for the Sioux Falls School District for a number of years, retiring in 1984. During his retirement, he kept himself busy by delivering parts for Dakota Auto Parts. He enjoyed working on cars, going camping and spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Verna; seven children, Cathy (Dan) Richardson of Dell Rapids, Steve Klepel of Harrisburg, MO, Greg (Terri) Klepel of Sioux Falls, Cynthia Cunningham of Sioux Falls, Karla (Greg) Eastman of Sioux Falls, Michael (Natasha) Klepel of Sioux Falls, Bradley (Dawn) Klepel of Sioux Falls; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Walter of Grand Rapids, MI and Marvin of Bloomington, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings and a grandson.
