Charles was born January 14, 1923 in Brookings. He served on the front lines in the US Army during WWII. Charles married Minnie Lock on February 5, 1948 in Sioux Falls. Houg will always be remembered by the work of his hands. Long, strong and wide, Chuck?s hands were used to create his unique woodwork, deal out his favorite card games, guide Grandma around the dance floor and throw his famous ?Houg heater?. This proud Norwegian dressed to the 9?s daily and loved nothing more than telling family stories over a cold Bourbon Seven. Charles was a member of the Moose, VFW, DAV and the American Legion. Charles is survived by his wife, Minnie; four children, Gwen Houg of Sioux Falls, Lynn Houg (Rita) of Columbia, MO, Tamie Jewell (Lee) of Tucson, AZ, Craig Houg (Melanie) of Sioux Falls; a son-in-law, Dick Gustaf; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; three siblings, Darrell Houg of Inver Grove, MN, Darlene White of Trent, SD and Shirley Potratz of Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Dody, two sisters and a brother.
