Robert Groff

December 1, 1927 — January 3, 2012

Robert ?Bob? Groff was born on December 1, 1927 in Fort Dodge, IA, where he grew up and then joined the Navy in 1946. On July 22, 1948 he married JoAnn Johnson at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. Bob and JoAnn were together for 63 years, and had 5 children; Kris, Kevin, Kathy, Kelley, and Kori. Bob had 9 grandchildren, Jenny, Michael, Angie, Erica, Jason, Lindsay, Andy, Christopher, and Josh. He had 5 great grandchildren; Cash, Cole, Emily, Ben, and Lexi. Bob had a love for his family and children, always being there if anything was needed. Woodworking was a passion for him, and he made many pieces of furniture, and taught his children to use tools to build, and make crafts, and other things. If a stool was needed to reach the bathroom sink, or a ?cat house? to protect the goldfish, Bob would head to the garage and start building. Bob was a huge Chicago Bears fan, and was often found in front of the television supporting his team. If anyone would ask him a question, he would go into selective hearing mode. He loved the Bears whether they won or lost, and was a fan until the end. Bob also had a love for music and collected over 9000 albums of various artists. Singing with earphones on has always been standard entertainment for others who didn?t have a clue what the song was. During his high school years, Bob was a lifeguard at Twin Lakes, Iowa, where he met his wife JoAnn and in later years, the lake cabin became the meeting place for many, and the heart of Groff family reunions. His family all inherited Bobs love for water, learning to swim in the backyard pool, and celebrating their anniversaries, and other occasions with pool parties that made great memories. He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, brothers Vern, Ed, Howard, John and Kenny, and a sister Geraldine, a daughter Kathy, and a grandson, Christopher. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support during these past months. Friendship has been so appreciated.
