Dona Underberg

Dona Jeanne Underberg (Siegfried) was born March 5, 1940 in Gregory, SD. As children, Dona and her three sisters spent time in the Abbot House orphanage in Mitchell, SD. Lynda (Ammann), the youngest of the four was the first to be adopted by Ralph and Helen Ginn of Brookings, SD. Dona and Dorothy (Martinez) were then adopted by Everette and Lelah Siegfried of Sioux Falls, SD. Two years later, Elly (Weeg) was also adopted by the Siegfried family and reunited with her two sisters. Dona loved to bake for her children and grandchildren most! But she also baked for family and friends. She was famous for her banana bread and cookies! Throughout her life she worked in many private homes as a house care taker and was a childcare provider for many years. Dona was known to be free spirited with a very loving heart. She was also someone you could talk to and she would do anything she could to help out others. She was very well known for her big kind heart. Dona married David Volden in 1957. They were blessed with six beautiful children. Tonya Sue Clark (Kent) Worthing, SD, Peggy Jeanne Volden (Rich Almont) Sioux Falls, SD, Allyn Paul Volden (Jane) Pueblo, CO, Lori Ann Volden (deceased), Amy Marie Leu (Mike) Inwood, IA, and James David Volden (Sonia) Sioux Falls, SD. Dona devoted her life to raising her children. She felt more than blessed for she loved her children very much. She also had an everlasting love for her twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Alyssia Weinzetl, Adam Olson, Amanda Gilbertson (Tonya), Ryan Hillberg, Jared Nolz (Peggy), Erica Call, Shana Roberts, Scott Volden (Allyn), Annie Schleis, Autumn Leu (Amy), Kami Dee Volden, Luke Volden (James); great grandchildren: Mason Olson (Adam), Cole Knoblock, Cade Knoblock, Alexis Schleis (Annie), Maddison Paige Roberts, Kegan Roberts (Shana). Donald Underberg has been Dona's very special companion for many years. Don has always been there for Dona when she needed him the most. She had great special love for him. Dona was preceded in death by her parents Everette and Lelah Siegfried and daughter Lori Ann Volden.
