Arnold Anderson

June 9, 1930 — February 25, 2013

Arnold Marvin Anderson was born June 9, 1930 to August L. Anderson and Olga M. (Styke) Anderson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Andy lived in Rowena, South Dakota during his younger years, a farm near Canton, South Dakota and eventually moved with his parents to Sioux Falls. He had many fond memories of time spent with his Grandpa Styke on the family homestead in Inwood, Iowa. He and Iona McConniel were joined in matrimony for 47 years after which they remained bonded by an unexplainable love and caring for each other. Andy?s early career was spent working for Gamble Robinson, Schoeneman?s Lumber Company and the Sioux Falls Stockyards to support his growing family. In 1973 he transitioned to the Sioux Falls School District where he worked as a custodian at Washington High School for twenty years. He treasured his years at Washington High School doing all he could to help the students and staff whenever he could. Much of his retirement was spent enjoying the lifelong hobbies he was well known for ? tinkering around the house, fixing lawnmowers and repairing cars. There wasn?t much he couldn?t fix when he put his mind to it. Throughout the years he made numerous trips to Texas to visit five of his children and their families who lived there. Always willing to help, he assisted in many renovation and building projects, including the construction of a three-car garage for one of his daughters. He is survived by five children, Iola Murray and husband Jon of Maypearl, Texas, Danny Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Virgil Anderson and wife Jane of Italy, Texas, Kevin Anderson and wife Elley of Midlothian, Texas, Lynnette Gutierrez and husband ?Pete? Rudd of Midlothian, Texas, 17 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, numerous step Grandchildren and step Great Grand Children; his lifelong playmate and cousin, Duane Gustafson with his treasured wife, Dixie. He was preceded in death by his parents, August Anderson and Olga (Styke) Anderson both of Sioux Falls and a daughter, Lorrie Hanson of Midlothian, Texas.
