Laverne Dayton Kimmel was born March 23,1922 in Sheldon, Iowa to Ben and Bertha Kimmel. He grew up in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1939. He attended Junior College in Sheldon. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1944. Dayton was employed at the Veterans Administration in Des Moines, Iowa for several years and later transferred to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1948 where he was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 41 years working in the Publications Unit. He retired in 1986. On May 2, 1954 he was united in marriage to Delores Frohlich in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where the couple made their home. Dayton was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls where he served as trustee for many years, participating in Senior Fellowship activities and assembled the church monthly newsletter. Dayton?s family and church were the high priorities in his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, golf, traveling, beautiful scenery, reading and growing flowers. Grateful for sharing his life were his wife, Delores, one daughter, Darla, two brothers, Loren and Richard and one sister, Norma Sterler. Dayton was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Bertha Kimmel, his wife, Delores and daughter, Darla; also his brother, Loren and sister, Norma Sterler and infant brother, Willis Marvin. Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Richard and his wife, Clare, of Okoboji, Iowa; a brother-in-law, George Sterler, Sheldon, Iowa; nephews, Larry Kimmel and his wife, Susan, Mark Kimmel and his wife, Linda, Lowel Sterler and his wife, Susan; nieces, Rita Sterler, Carla Anderson and her husband, Mark and many relatives and friends.
