Alan McCain

Alan Roger McCain, age 84, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at his home in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Alan was born in Clark, SD, on September 6, 1929, to Roy and Inga McCain. When he was four years old, they moved to a farm near Shindler, SD. He attended Shindler Country School and Harrisburg High School. After a short employment at Metz Bakery, he settled into work at John Morrell where he spent just over 30 years. On June 6, 1951, Alan married Constance Theresa Toohey at St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Connie passed away on May 26, 1986. Alan then married Maxine Elaine Kroll in Mission, TX, on February 14, 1987. Maxine died June 11, 2011. Throughout his life, Alan enjoyed working on and riding motorcycles, learning to fly, playing pool, and traveling. He is survived by his four children: Randy, Owatonna, MN; Bruce, Sioux Falls; Sandra, Sioux Falls; and Shawn (Renata), Brandon; 11 grandchildren: Kathy, Jaime, Ryan, Jessica, Patrick, Shonna, Justin, Heather, Shannon, Ashley, and Emily; and 14 great-grandchildren. Alan was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Barbara and Donald.
