Ervin Fuerst

March 24, 1926 — February 23, 2014

Ervin Loren Fuerst, 87 of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Ervin was born March 24, 1926 at Kaylor, South Dakota the son of Emanuel and Dorthea (Wagner) Fuerst. He married Leota Hartman on October 26, 1947. He entered the U.S. Army in January of 1952 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Ervin was honorably discharged from the Army in December of 1953. After the service, he worked with Farmers Union Co-op in Tripp and Mitchell, South Dakota until moving to Sioux Falls. Ervin worked for the next 24 years as a U.S. mail contractor serving the Madison, Oldham and Sinai areas. After retiring, Ervin and Leota spent the next 15 years wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. His summers at home were spent camping and fishing. Ervin was a member of Spirit of Peace United Church of Christ and the Tea American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Leota; a sister, Delores Sample, Mandan, North Dakota; three sisters-in-law, Eldora Daughtery, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, Ruth Boehmer, Parkston, South Dakota, Anetta (Edgar) Goehring, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
