He married Carol Fleming on November 25, 1990 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. They moved to the Aberdeen area where JJ was a pilot and crop duster for four years. He then moved to Alaska and worked as a bush pilot. In 2001, JJ came to Sioux Falls and began working at the west side Walmart store. He was employed at Walmart until his health forced him retire. JJ usually had a smile on his face and was often singing a tune. He loved flying, reading, boats and spending time with his friends.
