David Wicks

David William Wicks passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday July 4, 2014, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Dave was born on December 3, 1949 in Des Moines IA, to Margret Eloise (Knoll) Wicks and Robert Irl Wicks. Most of Daves childhood was spent living in Rapid City and enjoying one of his favorite places the Black Hills. He developed a love for building and restoring cars early on, working with his father. For the majority of Daves adult life he lived in Sioux Falls running his own business DMJ mechanical. He was always a very popular man with a lot of friends whom he loved to entertain. Building, restoration, and detailing hot rods was one of his true passions, which contributed to his popularity. Dave was great at everything he did, and was generous with everything he had. But without a doubt Daves true love was his amazing wife, children, and 15 grandchildren. He will be terribly missed by all of his friends and family, but his days of suffering are over and we are all thankful to have had the privilege to have him in our lives. Dave was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, mother Margret Eloise (Knoll) Wicks, father Robert Irl Wicks, and son Shawn Wicks. Survivors include his wife Patty (Vial) Wicks, sister Donna (Wicks) Sorenson, sister Patricia (Wicks) Heathershaw, brother Michael Wicks, son Jason Wicks, daughter Heather Dennis, son Christopher Bolls, son David Bolls, daughter Stephanie Bolls, grandchildren Sarah, Isaiah, Nevaeh, Jared, Jayse, Christian, Kayden, Zoey, Stevan, Sierra, Nick, Mason, Layton, Kameron, Cater, and numerous nieces and nephews.
