Marcelene Loretta, the daughter of Engelbert and Viola (Jewell)) Laur was born September 2, 1922 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. At the age of 2 her family moved to Sioux Fall, South Dakota, and that is where she grew up. She graduated from Washington High School in 1941. Upon graduating from High School, she was employed at John Morrell and Company until her first child was born. She then became a Housewife until her youngest child was in the 6th grade. She then worked at Raven Industries and Dakota Industries for several years on the production line. Marcelene was united in marriage with Derald Deal on July 29, 1942 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They celebrated 68 years together. She was a member of East Side Presbyterian for 59 years. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW Post #628. Marcelene was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and everyone enjoyed her clever and funny remarks. Marcelene enjoyed dancing, music, reading, social gatherings, watching soap operas, listening to books on tape and spending time with her family. In October of 2011, she joined the family at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she was lovingly cared for. Marcelene was 91 years, 11 months and 17 days when she passed away on August 19, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Village. Just 2 weeks before her 92nd Birthday! Marcelene is survived by her 4 children, Jackie (Ken) Cressman, Canton SD; Tom Deal, Sioux Falls SD; Sharla Conklin, Sioux Falls SD; Karen (Scott) Peters, Sioux Falls SD. 6 Grandchildren, Richard (Tonya) Cressman, Fargo ND; Susan (Shad) Thompson, Canton SD; Kim (Jon) Helm, Sioux Falls SD; James Conklin, Minneapolis MN; Dale Conklin, Atlanta GA; Jeremy Waring (Ramona), Colton SD and 1 Step Granddaughter, Amber (Greg) Briden, Sioux Falls SD. 7 Great-Grandchildren, Carly Cressman, Chelsey Cressman, Shane Thompson, Justin Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Kaitlyn Waring , Austin Waring and 1 Step Great Grandson, Dylan Peters. 7 Nieces and 1 Nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derald; 3 brothers, Lester (Evelyn) Laur, Lyle (Esther) Laur and Doyle (Marian) Laur; 1 Sister-In-Law, Darlene (Ellsworth Babe) Solomon; 3 Nephews, Tom Solomon, Gregory Laur and Roxy Laur and her parents, Englebert and Viola Laur.
