Michael Wood

Michael Kay Wood of Sioux Falls, SD passed away September 12, 2014 at the age of 67 from cancer. Michael was born February 12, 1947 to Louis Glenn and Hilda (Geistfeld) Wood in Cottonwood, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at English Lutheran Church, Cottonwood. Michael attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and worked in the auto repair business for many years before returning to school and earning his Bachelors degree in Social Work from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN and his Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota, after which he worked for various social service agencies, including Child Protective Services of Hennepin County for ten years, as well as other state, county and private agencies in Minnesota and Arizona. Michael loved to read and had a keen mind for the social sciences. He enjoyed discussing society, politics, and history with his sons and his many friends. With a lifelong love of cars, he owned many over the years and always kept an automotive project on the side. He also enjoyed musky fishing and going to garage sales. Mr. Woods survivors include his sons, Ben and wife, Ann, of Milaca, MN and Eric of Princeton, MN; his step-daughter Pam Ochsner and her sons, Darryn and Jacob; and his former wife, Fran, all of Princeton; his brothers, Merlin of Anderson, MO and Louis of Marshall, MN. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his son, Adrian; parents, Glenn and Hilda; brothers, Russell, Clifford, Harvey, Vernon, Roland, and Howard; and sisters Donna, Evelyn, Marvel and Betty. Arrangements are being handled by Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. A private memorial service will be held.
