Dale was born April 9, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD to William and Darlene (Hartson) Gillen. He grew up in Sioux Falls and attended Sioux Falls Public Schools. He married Roxanne Harmar in 1971. They had one child Jennifer Marie. The marriage ended in 1976. On April 30, 1986 Dale married Mardel Huber in Las Vegas. He inherited five children; Toby, Scott, Debbie, Don and John. Dale and Mardel were together for more than 25 years before she died in June 2007 from ALS. Dale worked at MidAmerican Energy for over 42 years. He started out working nights and worked serveral different positions until he retired on his birthday in 2013. From his cowboy hats to his western shirts, everyone knew Dale as the cowboy. He had a huge heart! He may have sounded gruff, but he was just a big teddy bear. Loving, caring and honest would be some of the best words to describe Dale and he was a true gentleman. He gave so much of himself and was there to helpalways. Whether it was taking care of the grandkids, helping hang tile or put up a fence, he was there for you. Dale always put others firstfamily, friend, neighborhe didnt discriminate, it was that giving heart. It wasnt just helping out Dale was there for; all you had to do was call and he was up for an adventure, big or small. He loved playing cards with his aunt and uncle, going to the Hills to visit family, heading off to Vegas or Reno, going to concerts (Country music of course), taking short trips to the casinos, watching wrestling or just going out to dinner if you called. Dale loved to bowl, had been on several leagues, bowling at Sport Bowl with his family and many friends. He also started many of his grandkids out bowling, a sport which several of them are still involved in. Dale enjoyed traveling to bowl Nationals and had just been to Reno in June. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gun enthusiast. Dale mostly hunted deer or turkey and was looking forward to getting back into hunting more since he retired. He often went fishing with his uncles. Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Jennifer (Andy) Boeyink, St Louis, MO; Toby (April) Huber, Sioux Falls; Scott (Terri) Huber, Sioux Falls; Debora (Kevin) Stene, Sioux Falls; Don (Lori) Huber, Sioux Falls; and John (Cynthia) Huber, Calhan, CO; his 15 grandchildren and his 15 great-grandchildren; his sister Joylene (Willie) Magnas, Lennox, SD; brothers Scott (Helen) Ketelsen, Hull, IA and Rick Ketelsen, Sioux Falls; as well as and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mardel; father William Gillen; parents Darlene and Cliff Kit Ketelsen; brother Mike Gillen and granddaughter Chelsea Marie Huber.
