Eugene Leroy Urben, 81, of Sioux Falls SD, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Eugene was born March 31, 1933 in Canton to Fred and Grace Urben. He grew up in Worthing and graduated from Worthing High School in 1952, he played basketball in high school. He met and married the love of his life, Marlene, on August 1, 1953 in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Sioux Falls and had their first son, Russell, in 1954, and adopted their second son, Rick, in 1964. Eugene went to work for the John Morrell Company where he was employed for 34 years. He also worked for several construction companies. He loved to take family vacations with the grandchildren and taught them how to fish. Eugene liked to spend time in the shop with his son, Russel,l building woodworking projects. He helped out around the neighborhood with shoveling and mowing . Eugene was a member of the Brandon historical society with his wife, Marlene. He was a devoted husband and father. He liked country western music and going to concerts. He loved traveling and went to Alaska on a cruise with Marlene. Eugene is survived by his sons, Russell (Tracy) Urben, Rick, and significant other Cindy, all of Sioux Falls SD; grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Bartelt of Baxter, Mn., Ashley (Steve) Surikov of Sioux Falls, Sd., Kayla Urben of Dodge City, Ks; 5 great grandchildren, Corey, Brady, McKenzie, Alex and Aiden. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents, Fred and Grace Urben; a sister Dorothy Albertson; and his grandparents.
