Marie Grieger

September 11, 1934 — February 12, 2015

Marie was born September 11, 1934 at Sauk Center, Minnesota, the daughter of Elbridge and Dorothy (Penrose) Cass. She graduated from high school at Sauk Center and then attended the University of Minnesota, earning a Home Economics Degree. Marie began teaching at Brownton, Minnesota. She married Harold on Harold Grieger on August 5, 1961 at Sauk Center, Minnesota. Marie taught sewing classes at Stretch and Sew here in Sioux Falls. She was very involved in church activities at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls before transferring over to Faith Lutheran. At Zion, she taught Sunday School, adult Bible class, was a member of the Dorcas Circle and led Bethel Series classes. After transferring to Faith Lutheran Church, Marie treasured her friendships with Goodwill Aide members and FACS friends. In addition to being a Mary Kay consultant, she was the administrative assistant to Karen Kratochvil, a Mary Kay National Director for many years. Marie loved the friends she made through Mary Kay and enjoyed the fellowship meetings and conventions. Throughout the years, two special women, Hilda Fick and Muriel Holdaway, remained her best friends and preceeded Marie in death, but their husbands, Don Fick and David Holdaway, continued to be friends to both Marie and Harold. Marie was an inspiring grandmother who taught her grandchildren many skills, including knitting and quilting, which will be carried on for years to come. Especially important to Marie was Christian education. She supported Sioux Falls Lutheran School and Sioux Falls Lutheran High School and was very proud of her grandchildren knowing Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. She is survived by her husband, Harold; a daughter, Sara (Kent) Klawonn of Viborg; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Ross Cass of Grand Rapids, MN; a sister-in-law, Alverna Andersen of Sioux Falls.
