Bernard Van Noort

September 4, 1924 — February 20, 2015

Bernard was born September 4, 1924 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Gerrit and Agnes (Van Der Ven) Van Noort. He attended school at Fairview, South Dakota. He left school before graduating to help his parents on the farm. Bernie married Beverly Hoff on April 8, 1946 in Sioux Falls. He entered the Army Air Force on April 23, 1946 and served until October 25, 1947. After his discharge, he returned to Sioux Falls. Bernie worked as a glazier for many years. He worked for Sioux Falls Paint & Glass, Viking Glass, Pittsburg Glass and Hanson Paint & Glass. He also worked as a courtesy driver for Vern Eide and as a maintenance worker for Motel 6 . He was a member of the Moose Lodge, V.F.W. and American Legion Post in Tea and Sioux Falls. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, telling jokes, collecting pens, John Deere collectables and semi trucks. Bernie volunteered at the VA Hospital every Friday for 9 years. Bernie is survived by four children, Robert (Ellen), Roger (Cheryl), Darla (Chuck) ONeill and Doug (Laurie); 8 grandchildren, Jason Sterk, Stacy Koster, Cory Van Noort, Cami Kuchta, AmyJo Ferguson, Kimberly McCormick, Troy Jungen and Travis Jungen; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Nancy DeBoer, Agnes Wulf and Gerrit VanNoort, Jr. all of Hawarden, Ia, and Clara Brunsma of Stickney, SD. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Dickie and an infant, Dennis; and siblings, William (infant), Anna Marie Overweg, Doris DeBruin, Jake, Bill, and Marven.
