Richard was born April 18, 1952 in Texas, the son of Antonio and Herminia Charles. He moved often with his family as they took seasonal farm work. Richard served in the US Army for a few years. For several years, Richard worked as a sheep shearer. He also worked in the construction industry. He Richard served as a pastor for a small church at Sabinal, Texas for a few years. Richard married Laurisa Hermann on October 16, 1982 in Sioux Falls. They lived in Texas for many years before moving to Sioux Falls in 1996. Richard worked as a phlebotomist until his eyesight prevented him from working. Richard enjoyed listening to praise and worship music and reading his Bible. He liked watching western tv shows and movies. He enjoyed serving people and took several mission trips to Mexico. Richard passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Laurisa of Sioux Falls; three children, Richard Charles, Jr. of Canyon Lake, TX, Joshua Charles of Sioux Falls, Sabrina Charles of Canyon Lake, TX; nine grandchildren; five siblings, Ernesto Charles, Antonio Charles, Jr., Zelda Ordway, Millie Charles and Joyce Hargraves. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Charles.
