Jerry Jones

Jerry Wayne Jones was born December 18, 1937 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Pastor Walter M. and Edith (Forbach) Jones. He attended Howard Wilson Elementary School, Leavenworth Junior High and graduated from Leavenworth High School on May 31, 1956. Jerry worked as an admission clerk at the V.A. Regional Medical Center at Wadsworth, Kansas from 1956 to 1961. He was a member of the National Guard at Leavenworth as a Military Policeman and a gunner with the rifle squad. Jerry entered the US Army in 1961 and took basic training at Ft. Riley, KS and received aircraft maintenance training at Ft. Rucker, AL. He then saw active duty at TongDuShon, Korea where he was an Operations Sergeant until being transferred back to Ft. Leavenworth and worked at the Muncie Army Hospital. In 1963, he was sent to the Savannah Army Depot in Illinois and was in charge of setting up the audio/visual training materials for Army instructors. Jerry later transferred to Naples, Italy as courier specialist where he handled top secret materials for Allied Powers Headquarters in France and Belgium. After his discharge from the National Guard and Army, Jerry worked as a transcriptionist at Ft. Leavenworth. Jerry married Judy Schultz on November 29, 1968 at Springfield, South Dakota. They lived in Kansas for a number of years before settling in Irene over 15 years ago. Jerry studied at the Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri and then completed study at the Great Plains Baptist Divinity School in Sioux Falls. He earned a Doctorate Degree. He worked for several years transcribing recordings of sermons and Bible lessons. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Judy; four children, Bret of Sioux City, IA, Nathanael of Jacksonville, FL, Daron of Tennessee, and Christa (Dennis) Cropper of Tyndall, SD; 10 grandchildren, Kristianna, Thomas, Nathanael, Zachery, Jerimiah, Alexander, Evan, Victoria, Jonathan and Sabrina; 4 siblings, David of Bonner Springs, KS, Walter Luke of Kansas City, Kansas, Mary (Robert) Logan of Leavenworth, KS and Doris Leeper of MO. Interment will be at Friedensberg Menonite Church Cemetery in rural Avon, SD
