Barbara Jean Stroup (age 76), beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 29, 2015 at the Dougherty House in Sioux Falls, SD after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born on March 30, 1939 in Ellendale, ND to Deloris and Marvin Ellis. She grew up in Aberdeen, SD, where she attended school including Northern State College while raising her family. In 1976, Barb packed up the family and moved to Brookings to begin new adventures and continue her education at South Dakota State University while raising her family and working in the Computing Center at SDSU. Barb eventually moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for and retired from CCL Label. Barb enjoyed bowling, billiards, and was an avid golf enthusiast. She especially loved playing cards and laughing until all hours of the night with her mother, sisters, and daughters. Grateful for having shared in her life are her mother, Deloris Olson of Minnetonka, MN; her children: Gerald (Glenda) Dewalt of Neck City, MO; Chelly (Dave) Huss of Burke, VA; Laura (John) Haas of Sioux Falls, SD; Timothy (Vicky) Stroup of Ramsey, MN; and Melissa (Doug) Moller of Alcester, SD. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Her father and her daughter, Cynthia DeWalt, preceded her in death. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
