Leona Wallenberg

Leona R. Wallenberg peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on March 29, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Leona Ruth Kasemodel was born August 6, 1924 in Rock County, MN to Herman and Marie (Schmuck) Kasemodel. Leona attended school through 8th grade in Luverne, MN. At age 14 she left home to work for other families and later worked at Nelsons Hardware Store in Luverne. She married Don E. Wallenberg on March 7, 1947 in Luverne, MN. Along with raising her sons Gail and Steven, Leona served as the Sunday School Superintendent at East Side Lutheran and was an active volunteer there for many years. In her spare time, she entwined her love for family into gifts of finely crocheted bedspreads, beautiful quilts, and decorated homemade cakes. She was a devoted grandmother babysitting and attending her grandchildrens events and activities. She truly lived her life for her God and family. Leona will be greatly missed by her son Gail (Colleen), Council Bluffs, IA, and his children Joshua (Joanna), Park Rapids, MN and Nicole (Quinn) Damgaard, Council Bluffs, IA; her daughter-in-law Debra Wallenberg and her daughter Callie (Tyler) Beisch; her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Camdyn, Clyne, Marley, Lucy, Natalie and Brenna; her siblings Berniece Falcosky, Tempe, AZ, Lucille Gangestad, Luverne, MN, Marvella Beck, Mitchell, SD, Robert (Joyce) Kasemodel, Escanaba, MI, Albert Gene(Marge) Kasemodel, Dell Rapids, SD, Carol Sels, Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Steven, and siblings Alvin Kasemodel, Marvin Kasemodel, Delmar Kasemodel and Joyce Espitee. Memorials may be directed to East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls or Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, IA.
