Ruth Tucker

Ruth was born May 19, 1931 at Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Grace (Solma) Feldman. She grew up in Iowa and Minnesota, graduating from high school at Luverne, Minnesota and then moved to Sioux Falls. Ruth worked as a waitress and that is where she met Clement and they were married on November 19, 1950 in Luverne. They lived at Billings, Montana until 1958 and moved back to Sioux Falls. In 1978, they moved to the Minneapolis area where Ruth worked as a property manager with Volunteers of America for 10 years. She was awarded the organizations first Saint of the Year Award and received it for three years. Ruth and Clem returned to Sioux Falls in 1988 to help care for their daughter, Valerie, and her family. They moved to Canton in 1994. Ruth and Clem were married for over 60 years. Clem passed away in 2012. Ruth remained in Canton until she passed away on August 28, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Home. Ruth enjoyed cleaning and organizing. She was always looking for a sale or great deal when she went shopping. She couldnt pass a garage sale without stopping and was a regular customer at the local thrift stores. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo (Rocky) Vant; grandchildren, Jasmin Vant, Tom Vant (Shaina Harris), Eva (Dane) Hudelson; sisters, Kathy (Harry) Minck and Betty Lou Lovain; son-in-law, Todd (Margaret) Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clem; two daughters, Dawn (infant) and Valerie; and two sons, Tom and an infant. Memorial service 11:30 am Friday, September 2, 2016 at Canton United Methodist Church.
