Richard Eugene Sorum

February 10, 1944 — March 27, 2017

Richard (Dick) Sorum, 73, of Renner, South Dakota, was called to be with the Lord on March 27, 2017 after a courageous 10 month battle with leukemia. He was born on February 10, 1944 to Mort and Genevieve Sorum. Dick grew up in Renner and attended Brandon High School and Augustana College. He loved sports and was inducted into the Brandon Valley Athletic Hall of Fame. During the Vietnam war, Dick served in the Air Force National Guard. He was a member of Renner American Legion Post #307. Dick married Charlotte Peterson on March 16, 1974 at Renner Lutheran Church where he and his family attended for many years. Dick was a home contractor building custom homes and doing remodeling in the Sioux Falls and surrounding areas for 42 years. He was a professional craftsman who took pride in his workmanship and customer service. Dick had a strong attention to detail and creating lasting customer relations. He was an honest man and was respected by fellow contractors, his clients and friends. Dick had a deep faith in God which was witnessed by his commitment to his church, bible study groups, Men in Mission, and Ne-So-Dak Lutheran Bible Camp. Welcoming new people into the church was a high priority for him. Bringing people together through projects, fellowship and community service was self-fulfilling. Dick and Char loved music, Ballroom dancing and Augie basketball games. Dick loved visiting with his family and was very supportive of his children and their endeavors. He also loved to travel; he and Char took yearly vacations with family and friends. He also loved the Lake and country drives. He was survived by his wife, Char, and his children, Lisa Sorum, Renner, S.D.; Michael (Kelly) Sorum, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Bradley Sorum, Renner, S.D. He is also survived by his siblings, brother Dean (Sandy) Sorum and Linda (Jon) Clauson, all from Renner, S.D. and many beloved cousins.He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mort and Gen Sorum. Memorials may be directed to Spirit of Joy Faith Chest Builders or Ne-So-Dak Bible Camp. God bless the memory of Richard Eugene Sorum.
