Arthur Harms

Arthur was born on February 13, 1935 at Lennox, South Dakota, the son of Everet and Henrietta (Wallenstein) Harms. He grew up near Chancellor and attended country school. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand. Art moved to Sioux Falls in 1958 where worked at Fenns Ice Cream for 11 years and then at Foremost Dairy. He married Bernice Adolph on March 8, 1963 in Sioux Falls. He was a custodian with the Sioux Falls District for 36 years, retiring in 2011. Art enjoyed working on cars and doing handyman work on his home. Art is survived by his wife, Bernice; 6 children, Norma Jean (Randy) Eie, Brenda (Brad) Norby, Susan Powell, David (Allissa) Harms, Dennis (Amy) Harms and Teresa Jo (James) Fitzler; 14 grandchildren, Danielle (Matt) McCarthy, Nicklos Norby, Desiree (Jake) Dressen, Megan (David) Napolitano, Brooke Powell, Kara Harms, Allyson Harms, Hunter Harms, Joslyn Harms, Mikaela Fitzler, Katelyn Fitzler, Izaac Fitzler, Bronson Eie and Jasmyn Eie; 3 great grandchildren, Harper McCarthy, Violet Harms and Vance Dressen; 4 siblings, Gerald (Doris) Harms, Glen (Velma) Harms, Shirley Gunderson and Jenola Harrel; brother in-law, Derald Johnson and sister-in-law, Carol Harms. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Calvin; and two siblings, Verlyn Harms and Evelyn Johnson.
