Green Burial is an environmentally friendly disposition option. Green Burial has a smaller impact on the environment than standard traditional services and cremation. The body is not embalmed to prevent the preservative chemicals from leaching into the ground. The body is usually refrigerated until the time of the ceremony and interment. Caskets are made from renewable and bio-degradable materials. Vaults are not used at the cemetery and the casket is placed directly in the grave. Mt. Pleasant Cemetery is the only cemetery currently offering Green burial.
